Samaa TV breaks new ground
Published by TV Explore on March 28, 2009
SAMAA TV, the leading Urdu news channel in Pakistan has taken the lead by being the first media channel in the world to launch a Digital News gathering system through wireless solutions using the WiMax structure.
The concept of Digital News gathering has evolved from the concept of satellite news gathering (SNG) which is the use of mobile communications equipment for the purpose of worldwide news casting. This pioneering system allows live broadcast from remote locations, rapid reporting from the field, transfer of high quality videos and most importantly, all of the quality services being provided are of low cost.
The current and also standard process of gathering and processing news in the media industry is through DSNG Vans. These are mobile units, which are usually vans equipped with advanced, audio and video transmitters and receivers.
SAMAA TV has by introducing the SAMAA DNG Solution developed a low cost system through which the reporters are enabled to deliver news directly from the field to the newsroom and allows rapid and comprehensive news gathering via the WiMax solutions.
SAMAA TV’s Chief Executive Officer, Amir Jahangir expressed great enthusiasm on launching the initiative and said “This solution is a benchmark for future media news, as the services being provided are of high quality and in line with the innovative global media development, which is focusing on immediate and easy access to news. Our initiative is in particular favorable as usually innovation is linked with high cost investment, but this initiative offers the same benefits as a DSNG Van while it is a landmark initiative in promoting innovation on low cost”.
SAMAA shared that the cost of 1 DSNG Van is equal to the cost of 33 SAMAA DNG Solution Units, as currently 1 DSNG van costs about Rs. 1,00,00,000, while using the new SAMAA DNG Solution has a cost of about Rs. 3,00,000. This is a cost savings of approximately Rs. 97,00,000.
