PEMRA to hold public hearing to award TV licenses
Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) would start holding public hearing to award five licenses to different companies from April 24.
The public hearing to grant a satellite channel by the name of Egro TV and to run SAARC TV would be held at PEMRA’s Regional Office Islamabad on April 24.
According to an official at PEMRA here Saturday, the public hearing for award of license to run A-Plus channel and to operate satellite channel by the name of Sachal Music would be held at PEMRA’s Regional Office, Lahore on April 25. PEMRA has also arranged public hearing at its Regional Office Karachi to grant license by the name of Awaaz TV on April 27.
The official said the motive behind holding of such public hearing was to listen general views of the masses for issuing the license to the companies.
He said satellite television is provision of television services through satellite. The television channel is received anywhere in the world where the foot print or beam of the satellite is received. The official said it is hallmark achievement of PEMRA that a developing country like Pakistan is emerging at par with the developed nations of the world in terms of electronic media progress.
He said PEMRA pursuant to its mandate is endeavored to penetrate electronic media to nooks and corners of society to have access of common man to healthy information, entertainment and education through varied broadcast mediums.
He expressed his resolve to encourage and facilitate the prospective entrants in this domain.
