NA Deputy Speaker Hints at Having an Exclusive Parliament TV Channel

The Deputy Speaker National Assembly, Faisal Karim Kundi on Thursday there would soon be a separate television channel for coverage of the parliamentary proceedings in Pakistan. He was talking to the leading news daily Media Indonesia, says a press release received here today from Embassy of Pakistan Jakarta.

He said he had the opportunity to visit the Indonesian parliament on and met with his Indonesian counterpart. He termed the meeting fruitful for enhancing inter-parliamentary ties. He also visited the exclusive TV channel for the Indonesian parliament’s coverage which was keenly watched by Indonesian viewers. He said that idea of exclusive TV channel for the coverage of parliamentary proceedings appealed to him and he would work out a proposal in this regard back home for a speedy implementation.

Replying to a question regarding the current situation concerning the war on terror, Mr. Kundi said the Pakistan army with the full support of the political parties and people of Pakistan was carrying out a massive operation against militants in Waziristan.He was confident that soon it will reach a conclusive end. He also referred to the Swat operation and added that Pakistan had to face tremendous difficulties to huge migration of IDPs. The South Waziristan operation also caused IDPs problem and Pakistan needed assistance from the international community for resettlement and rehabilitation work.

To a question he said that the war on terror was a global war and Pakistan ’s victory, would be a victory for the whole world. He added that Pakistan needed all out support from the international community to win this war and should not be left alone in this hour of need. He said the political parties and the whole Pakistani nation were supporting their armed forces in the operation against militants in Waziristan . He said those who took active part in the first Afghan war against the Soviets were completely deserted afterwards and had no place to go. These elements later became a serious problem for peace in the region, he observed.

Mr. Faisal Karim described Pakistan-Indonesia relations as excellent in all respects and added there was a need to have more exchange of visit at higher level to forge active cooperation with particular emphasis on economic relations besides trade build up.

He said he was specially invited by the Kashmir Solidarity Forum, Jakarta to address the seminar on Kashmir Black Day for which he was grateful to the organizers. He also said at this point that the OIC and other leading nations of the world needed to focus on resolving issues like Kashmir and Palestine facing the Muslim Ummah for contributing to the cause of world peace.

The Deputy Speaker described his visit to Jakarta as a useful experience and added it would help fortify cooperation between the two countries.
