A local Civil l court has summoned City District Nazim Lahore Mian Aamir Mehmood, CEO of Dunya TV, Yousaf Baig Mirza, MD Dunya TV, and others to appear before civil judge Khizar Hayat Minhas on February 3.

The court issued notices on Friday and directed them to file written statements by February 3rd in the court.

The court order was issued on a civil suit filed by a renowned journalist and former director news of Dunya TV, Absar Alam, claiming a recovery of amount Rs. 7.7 Million as his salary and other dues.

In his suit, Mr. Absar Alam contended through his lawyer, Saad Rasool, that by extraordinary efforts made by a team of the seasoned journalists successfully launched Dunya TV which was intensive care unit for two years due to non-professional and anti-worker attitude of the top management.

He said that due to a dispute on professional issues, he quit Dunya TV but the management had not paid his legitimate salaries and other dues accrue in terms of contact of service with them.

He further contended that he had asked the management a number of times to make the payment of his lawful dues but it did not pay any heed. The court has been informed that the management of Dunya team keeps pressuring professional journalists working with them to pursue their own petty political agendas and has a history of sacking workers for no reason. Dunya Management, the petition said, also overlooks its responsibility of protecting the rights of women journalists working.

The former Director News Dunya has contented that he refused to follow these dictated lines and preferred to resign but the management, headed by Lahore Nazim, in a poor display of his detestation for journalists and their rights, withheld his lawful dues. Consequently, Absar had to knock the door of law for recovery of his outstanding arrears.

The learned court after hearing briefly the contention of the plaintiff’s council, Saad Rasool, issued notices against the Dunya TV management and directed them to appear before the court and file a written statement and adjourned the hearing by Feb 3rd.
