Geo News to telecast Doha Debates
The Doha Debates will now be seen by millions of viewers in Asia, thanks to a deal between Qatar Foundation and Geo News.
Initially, the debates will be telecast with Urdu subtitles and will later be shown eight times a year.
Doha Debates Chairman Tim Sebastian said the agreement recognized the program’s growing popularity in Asia.
“I think Pakistani Muslims will find plenty of resonance in the subjects we discuss and the way in which we promote new thinking and new ideas. Our audience is young, assertive and determined to get answers to some of the key questions of our time. I hope more people in Pakistan will see the value of peaceful debate and robust questioning.”
Geo News broadcast its first Doha Debate on May 13. The channel’s Managing Director, Azhar Abbas, said he had high hopes for a successful series.
“I am very pleased about the launch of The Doha Debates on Geo News. This partnership of The Doha Debates, one of the most prominent debating television programs, and Geo News, the largest Urdu news channel in Pakistan, will strengthen the brand entity of both parties and extend exposure in the news and current affairs programming both globally and in the region.”
The Debates are watched by millions around the world.
