Pakistan Cricket Board in TV rights talks

Broadcasters are being courted by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to buy the television rights for the country’s intended 2012 series against neighboring rivals India, according to Pakistan Today.
Ijaz Butt, chairman of the PCB, reportedly met with Zee TV officials in New Delhi recently. Zee TV is the majority owner of Dubai-based Taj Entertainment Network (TEN), with which PCB currently has a four-year deal, set to expire in 2012.
“Butt went for the meeting because Zee/Ten Sports are keen on signing a fresh four-year contract with the PCB despite the fact that foreign teams are not touring Pakistan since March 2009 because of security reasons,” an unnamed board member is quoted as saying in Pakistan Today.
The broadcasting rights for Pakistan’s domestic cricket matches are currently held exclusively by Geo Super, which has also placed itself in the running for the international rights, according to the report.
The newspaper also claims the talks between PCB and Zee Networks touched upon the possibility of organizing a bilateral series between Pakistan and India in England or another neutral venue.
