PEMRA warns five TV channels for content violations

Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) on Thursday issued strict warning to TV channels including Royal TV, Play TV, OYE TV, Oxygen TV and Indus Music who despite repeated instructions and advices were flouting their content provisions in disregard to their respective license categories.
As per terms & conditions of license, a TV channel can broadcast up to 10% of total foreign content which constitutes maximum 2 hours and forty minutes duration in total broadcast of 24 hours. However according to PEMRA these channels e.g. Play TV, OYE, Indus Music and Oxygen were observed airing excessive foreign content beyond the permissible limit which sometimes contained vulgar and indecent content.
Similarly Royal TV has been granted license for entertainment category but the channel has been persistently airing news and current affairs program in sheer disregard to its license category. The channels have been issued reasonable notices/warnings in the past but no visible compliance was witnessed on their part.
PEMRA in its last meeting that took place on July 26, 2011 had taken serious notice of such violations and had decided to impose fine of Rs one million on all TV channels involved in repeat violation after giving them reasonable warning and time to address their misconduct.
PEMRA has given final thirty days deadline to these channels to correct their content as per mandate of their respective license failing which the Authority shall be initiating action against the violators as per law which may lead to revocation of licenses.

dear sir my name is lubna and i live in lahore sir i have a request and my request is that to please give the permission to world call multimedia people to switch on the other indian channels such as zee tv sab sony set max starutsav and other indian channels u can't imagine that how much boring their cable is going on day by day they have forgotten that how to entertain their customers so sir i really request u to give them permission to switch on these channels so that their customers could watch these channels which they really want to watch i really hope that u will fullfill my request and will give permission to worldcall multimedia people to switch on these channels
